If you ask me, we English did pretty well to come up with ANY national meal, given the fact that we seem to have... well, nothing actually tasty growing in England.
Tomatoes? No. Grapes? Nope. Potatoes? Not even them. Oranges? We wish. The list goes on. We just had to ea lots of different types of meat with bread and cabbage and stuff. All you other 'gourmet' countries out there count your lucky stars, because remember - but for a quirk of geography, it could have been YOU.
