Okay, it seems like we have a few real veteran gamers here who go back to the glory days of 8 bit computers. So let's talk about our faves (maybe even not-so-faves!) from way back when.

Some of my favorites from "back then":

1. Ultima IV - Roleplaying, conversation, and more than just hack and slash. Great non-standard intro and character creation (loved that Gypsy with her "tarot"-style cards).

2. Wasteland - The great post-nuke RPG (finally followed up lo! these many years later in Fallout).

3. Wizardry I & IV - Wiz I was the first true "party" style game; I loved having a whole crew instead of just one. IV was a mind-bender in many ways, with multiple endings, and the chance to play Werdna, calling up monsters for help with fights.

4. Bard's Tale III - The best of the series. BT I was a bit too much like Wizardry; some even called it "Wizardry with better graphics".

5. Might & Magic I - Loved it for the many puzzles. Hated it for the unbalanced combat. I still have the 50+ (you read it right, fifty plus!) maps from this game. Let's be glad all the dungeons back then were the same size and shape.

There are others but these are the ones that come to mind right now.

8 bit computer games? the only thing I can remember is Might and Magic 1. yeah the game is very unbalance, money is scarce, I have to memorize the maps to know where I'm going.

does Might and Magic 2 ~ 5 count as 8 bit computer game?

Yeah, they count as 8-bit, even if they've been re-released to play on the PC

You must have a great memory if you can memorize all those maps

Well, Albion is kinda cheating, because it wasn't an 8-bit game. But I guess we can allow it for you youngsters

P.S. Hey, anyone out there remember Temple of Apshai or Hellfire Warrior?

Ahem...I was born in 1971, I wouldn't call myself an old guy (just yet) but I think I am way beyond "youngsters" already.

Anyway, my fist PC was a 286 back in 1991 (or 92?) and I have not play much games those days.

Heh, you were still a meare childe when I bought my first computer, the Apple ][ +. The 286 was a 16-bit machine, so was already past the golden era.
