Hi,
My almost fearless nearly-heroes have found the way to lower the drawbridge at Shirugeon Castle, and in the process the rogue has developed a penchant for black. (He claims it's because black accessorises with everything, but I think he's discovering his Inner Goth.) Lowering it is simple enough ... but I can't get it to -stay- down. Every time I return to town, the bridge goes back up. Sometimes, that useless sentry has returned (and fallen asleep -again-! No wonder the Castle fell...) Is there a trick to getting the bridge to stay down? Melb_Wiz. P.S. I've read a lot about these Fearsome Salads ... but I've not met any Mantraps anywhere. Where should I be looking for them? The only reference I've seen was when a Summoned Longtooth went wandering off ... it died at the leaves of a Mantrap, but I couldn't find the thing... Hail fellow Melburnian!!!!!
I've never experienced that problem, however, I did notice that if you flip the lever while someone - or something - is under it (yes, even moat piranhas) it will keep half opening/ half closing and if you leave it and go back to town, and then come back, it will be as if it has not been opened. I'm not sure whether this will solve your problem, and I've never had the sentry respawn on me (but he's worth some nice XP though ) Anybody else? Hope this helps, Moiraine Sedai [ 08-27-2003, 05:39 AM: Message edited by: moiraine sedai ]

The drawbridge will close again if someone else gets the ninja quest. So that's something to consider. Aside from that, I've never had an issue with it not staying open.
And the salads usually come to get you when you're doing battle with the band of rattkins on the way to Shurugeon Castle. If you haven't seen them yet, I'm kind of surprised -- they WILL hunt you down They've found me as far away as Torin, where they showed up in the middle of a fight that I really didn't want them to crash... Perhaps you took a different way to Shurugeon Castle, where they haven't been triggered yet. That's the only other thing that I can think of... Anyway, do let us know. I know that I'm curious...

but be forewarned, those salads are capable of disabling ur ENTIRE party in 1 breathe, so ranged attacks are best (one firestorm could do the trick... ) !
as for the respawning sentry, isnt it good to leave it as that? now u'll haf a never-ending supply of decent xp!

That's weird.
Taking the ninja quest should not cause the drawbridge to go up. It's a bug, or rather a misunderstanding, in the game. You can lower the drawbridge, go to the town, and promote everybody in the inn to a ninja. Simply go to the armory, take the ninja quest, enter Bushi Dojo, and become a ninja. I am always doing the ninja quest that way. More precisely, I do the following: 1. Enter the Shurugeon Castle area and kill all ghosts around. 2. Lower the drawbridge. 3. Return to Ishad N'Ha, take the Ninja quest in the armory, enter Bushi Dojo, and become a ninja. Note: You can lower the drawbridge, then do what you want, including entering and leaving the town, and then start promoting your guys to ninjas. The drawbridge should be still down. I have also tried promoting multiple characters to ninjas this way. It worked. I see the following possible sources of your problem: 1. Are you patched? Does the patch try to fix the "ninja bug"? 2. Have you killed all ghosts around first? Perhaps, the presence of the ghosts can cause the drawbridge going up. Note that the ninja quest wants you to lower the drawbridge AND not to disturb the ghosts. Perhaps the "ninja bug" works only if there are no ghosts to disturb. I don't know. 3. Another possible reason is leaving the town. Perhaps, the game sees that you have the ninja quest and raises the drawbridge on your leaving the town. Try taking the quest and promote immediately without leaving the town. As far as the sentry is considered, I guess it's windows NT that causes it. I've never seen multiple sentries but I have already seen the sentry immediately after entering Shurugeon Castle - not after listening to D'Soto. This happens to me after installing windows 2000, I've never experienced it under windows 98. Maybe, the chaos with the sentries is responsible for the drawbridge but I am still able to promote my characters to ninjas using the "ninja bug". [ 08-27-2003, 11:49 AM: Message edited by: Radek ]

The patch does not prevent exploiting the "ninja bug". You can still promote without having to go lower the drawbridge.
*edit: Again, I mean. Without having to lower the drawbridge again. * I suspect you may be right about it lowering again if you take the ninja quest again and then leave town, similar to the samurai ghost respawning when you get the quest again. [ 08-27-2003, 10:29 AM: Message edited by: Bungleau ]

NO Salads?? Oh that is a new one! But I suppose if you took a very different route to get to the castle you might manage to avoid the area where they lurk. Generally they show up west of the burnt out house as you're heading down to the castle. Did you take a different route?
I also never had problems with the drawbridge going back down. Could be a monster triggering the switch or, if you have others on the ninja quest, that causing it to close. Wyv |

Weird, my draw bridge stays down sometimes and stays up other times. I think there's a contradiction somewhere in the programming for this. One line has a reference to shutting the draw bridge (for instance when a second character receives the ninja quest) and then there's probably another line in there telling the program the opposite. I've experienced both.
Melb, it is very possible that you have sped by the mantraps. But then they should have followed you. Unless they are somehow stuck somewhere. Check Xignal's maps on his W&W site, http://www.volberding.com for their location. |

If one keeps to the right when walking towards the Shire and does not turn left before reaching the burnt-out house, one can circumvent the mantraps.
