Is it possible to set up separate accounts for family members on a machine with XP Home as the OS? If so, how?

I believe so. I do it on Win 98...

Go into the control panel and look for profiles. You'll need to set everyone up as a profile. Or perhaps it's a user on XP... in either case, start off in Control Panel.

Make sure to keep an Administrator user. There are some things that only Administrator can do...

In the control panel, there is an icon for users. This starts a wizard to walk you through the account creation process. If it's your computer, don't let the other accounts have Admin priveleges - they won't be able to install programs or access others profile data. Make sure everyone knows to save any personal files to the My Documents folder. This is a user private folder.

Since you retain the Admin acount, be respectful of the other users data. Also, if you want to increase the security of your machine, create a user account for yourself as well and do most of your computing from there. Only switch to the Admin acct when you want to install a program or do sys maintenace. This protects you from stray programs installing themselves without your knowlege.
