I'm trying to find good songs to listen to and wanted some imput from you guys. I know of some songs to give you all an idea of what I mean by fantasy music. Things like O Fortuna by Carl Orff and Dies Iraes. Anything that is loud, kinda dark and would be cool during a battle scene. The dramatic choral stuff is mainly what I am aiming for but if anybody knows any instumental stuff let me know too!

Whatever you think of the Tomb Raider series as games, you can't deny that the music from the original was simply great. The PSX version had some fantastic fight scene tunes. As for fantasy movies,I have a number of soundtracks in my collection and one of my favorites is Krull, the "Fire Mares" track is one of the most rousing tunes I've heard. The Lord of the Rings OST also has great battle songs with all the "Mordor" chanting to boot.
I don't know how hard it is to get these soundtracks as I aquired them through a specialist shop, but I'll have a look through my collection and see what else I can recommend.Remember though,if you listen to most soundtrack music out of context, you'll be surprized what actually fits. ------------------ "It hurts us,it hurts us.It freezes,it bites!" |

I really like O fortuna - and do you mean Verdi's Dies Irae in particular? It is definitely very dark and dramatic and I love it. In fact I like several requiems - Mozart's is good, not as dramatic, but very moving (especially knowing that he died before it was finished - he was convinced that he was being poisoned and was really writing it for himself).

Aurican
My choir has done three performances of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and we'll do two more in the coming time... Love your subject, you had some good other polls too, keep up the good work ...good choices of music as well, and you too Epona! Really to my taste! Keep on posting in this forum OK? ------------------ Melusine, Archbabe of the OHF and the LH Your voice is ambrosia |

Melusine-
I used to do choral stuff - just a village choral society, but it was great fun. We used to put on concerts and there was a big festival once a year where all the local choirs would get together - have loads of competitions during the day then put on a concert in the evening - I sang Soprano, but my voice is a bit deeper now than it used to be. Myself, my dad & my brother were all in the same choir - my dad could do Tenor or Bass and my brother was Bass (from age 14!!!), so we used to practice a lot together doing the different parts - often in the car if we were having a family day out we would drive along singing. My mum also has a lovely voice, very deep, but she does not believe she is good enough to sing in public which is not true! Have done some opera as well. Still love to sing, but don't have enough time at the moment to pursue all my interests! Aurican, another thought - you mention film music - well I watched Phantom Menace again last night, and I'd quite forgotten how beautiful and dramatic the music was, and it also has choral parts. Very spine-tingly. ------------------ Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. Epona of The Laughing Hyenas and The Ladies Guild. |
