What's the size of your monitor, Attalus? I've found that 800 x 600 even on a 17" monitor is too grainy...tends to drive me nuts! I've got a 19" now and I run it at 1280 x 1024, although I do turn "large fonts" and "large icons" on. It's still quite a bit clearer, though.

Oh, no...the game resolution switches as soon as you enter the game. I can even play BG1 at 640 x 480, with my monitor normally set to 1280 x 1024. The switch is made without you even realizing it.

Cheers,
-Saz

That question will answer itself once you start playing certain games.

Depends on the Tube/Panel
15" - 1024
17" - 1156 to 1280
19" - 1280 to 1800
21" - 1600 to 1800

even on a 21" tube, over 1800 is getting pretty darn small... I experimented and could get my card/monitor up over 1800, but it wasn't too user friendly.

I run mine at 800x600 and on a 21" monitor too. Sure, everything is BIG but I've gotten so used to it that I'd have to push myself to get used to 1024 or higher before I can settle down with it.

On my Game Machine with the GF4 video card I run 1600x1200 on a 19" Viewsonic Monitor with a refresh of 75Hz (any refresh > 70 is good but there is no need to over do it)

On my Websurfing/email/secondary system with a GF3 card I run 1280x1024 at 75hz
on a Optiquest 19" monitor

On the work Machine (which I cannot get here from) It is also 1280x1024 at 72Hz on an older 20" HP monitor.

I guess I'm a vanilla user. 1024x768 on a 17" monitor. I seem to recall from the stats at my place that the American (kinda) standard is 800x600, where more Europeans use 1024x768. Dunno whether this is still true, though

On my 19" monitor i use 1024 x 768 with 32 bit color deep and the refresh rate is 85 hertz and that is good for my eyes!
