Why cats? what kind of horrible crime have they committed against you, that you kill, and statet that you for a strange reason like it, killing cats.

I have 3 cats.... so, I would glady have an explanation of you why you do such a in my mind vile and disturbing thing.

I'm not flaming you, but I would really wanna know what you think when you are killing a innocent cat (rather not, but I would like to know your reasons)

Masklinn, Maybe it's a language barrier or you are having a totally insensitive moment, but I happen to own cats, as does harleyquinn and probably a number of other people in this thread, and I found your first post extremely distasteful. Especially as the first one lacks any indication that you ARE joking and you've dropped that little bomb in the middle of a discussion of torturing and killing people's pets.

As for the comment that burning a bird alive is like cooking crustaceans...all I will say is it's hardly comparable IMO.

Anyone who posts here should keep in mind that this thread is on a very sensitive subject and will be shut down if it deteriorates into a flame fest or jokes in very poor taste.

Would you like to explain a bit further Cloudbringer ?
What difference do you make between burning a bird alive and boiling a crab alive ?

Masklinn, I find boiling crabs/lobster just as objectionable, which is why I don't eat them, the same for veal. I find the way that those calves (sp?) are treated is horrible and cruel.

As for your other comment, I found it very distasteful and not the least bit funny. It's because there are people out there that would hurt a cat just for sport that I keep my baby indoors.

I apologize for the cat-killing comments. I would never do such a thing and I should have added a smiley or two (I wont edit to add it or the answers to it would look weird).

I'm amazed though that some of you have taken that seriously.

You have to use the smileys and indicate it's a joke if you do things like this, Masklinn. Actually, it's not in the best taste in such a thread even so, but still it would have made it clear to everyone that you didn't really mean it. As it is, I was shocked to read it, because even though I felt you HAD to be joking because I have see you post for a while now, I just couldn't tell for sure from the written word (which is a problem in forums where we don't see one another's hand gestures and facial expressions).

TL, do you know when the guy who did that to the parakeet is being tried and or sentenced? Is it in a county court?

edit: duh..I'd called the parakeet a parrot.

It's Ok Cloudy - a parakeet *is* a parrot! Parakeet is just a descriptive word meaning a parrot with a long tail So we may call budgerigars, ring-necks, conures and macaws 'parakeet', but they are just as much parrots as the short-tailed ones such as an african grey, a lovebird, a senegal parrot, or an amazon parrot, and either word is just as correct for a long tailed parrot. They are all members of the psittacidae genus.

Thanks Nachtrafe for editing your post - I didn't comment but it had upset me. I can see your point, but thanks for editing to make what you were saying seem less horrible! And thanks to Masklinn too for clarifying that you weren't being serious about the cats, I was shocked there for a minute.

For what it's worth, I try not to eat creatures that are routinely boiled alive or mistreated while they are alive, although I'm not vegetarian. I do see a difference between parrots and shellfish/crustaceans though - parrots have been shown to have the cognitive ablility of a 2 year old child (ie similar to that of a chimpanzee). My parrots (a senegal parrot and 2 budgies) get distressed by even little things such as seeing *me* upset because they are very sensitive, empathetic, and sociable creatures that are easily distressed. Parrots have been known to peck themselves to death rather than continue living after the death of a loved one (human or bird partner). I do not like to think of the anguish and fear that parakeet went through, let alone the physical pain. They may not be capable of abstract thought processes as we are, and I'm not saying they are 'human' in any way, but they are intelligent and sensitive creatures - and should be treated as such. It hurts me to see any animal fearful or in pain, especially my parrots.

I firmly believe that if you intend to get a pet of any kind, it becomes your responsibility to let it lead a full, happy, and healthy life. Unfortunately not everyone does this, and I do believe that animal welfare laws are an unfortunate necessity to prevent people like this from keeping and harming animals.
