How far back can I take my party?

Which is the earliest game in which I could build a party to, directly or indirectly, import into Wiz8?

/i think in some form or another you can port a party indirectly right from Wiz1. There's one transition (Wiz4-5) where I think it's the previous party's children that carry on or something like that but you can still sort of carry on with the same party.

Wizardry 6, Bane of the Cosmic Forge- Wizardry 7, Crusaders of the Dark Savant- Wizardry 8

you could load characters from 1 into 2 and 3. They kept their levels in 2 but were 'reborn' keeping some stats in 3, more or less the same characters. 4 was completely different, you playing the evil Werdna. 5 was back to heroes and I don't think you could send them to six. six definitely could go to seven and seven to eight. and hopefully 8 to 9.
