All the data on all my hard drives has become read only. whenever i unselect read only, as soon as i close the window, it gets set again. this means i cannot do much at all, because all my save files, and game files are read only. i scanned with norton antivirus (2002, fully updated) and AVG (also updated) but couldnt find anything. also, there are no unusual programs or processes running in the background (already tried safe mode).

any help would be much appreciated

thanks.

nope, they are both the ones ive had working for ages. the problem has started on my brothers pc too now, but when he uses win98 (instead of xp) he doesnt have the problem. this sounds like a virus to me, but it isnt found as one

It could be the virus that uninstalls everything, you know the big one? I cant remember its name now! But anyway, take a trip down to trend Housecall and see what he has to say on this matter. Your scanners may be affected too.
