Everybody talks about the other classes in BG2 but never the monk. With the magic resistence, immunity to normal weapons, and hand attack damage wouldn't he be a very good class to use?

aye monks can become very powerful characters indeed, great natural defenses combined with impressive physical power (really for an evil solo trip i would reccomend monk, cause even though your evil youd still get the monks natural immunity to non-magic weapons, helpful in many places)

my only gripe with monks are their low hp, they get hp like a cleric, rather than a fighter. my xp-capped barbarian has about 100hp up on what a xp-capped monk would have, really thats my only problem with them, other than that, they rock

I guess there has to be a downside to any character.

With AC reductions at high level, the Monk can become a difficult character to hit. Combine this with magical fists, high no. of attacks and special abilities like Whirlwind Attack - you have a pretty formidable opponent.

I agree with Aramil, solo monks are great fun (good or bad). Shame you can't multi-class with a spell caster!!!

I love monks my second favourite class actually, I think one of the main reasons people don't use monks is the huge difficulty curve, at the very start of the game they can be quite hard to play especially solo there AC is poor and hit point wise they die quickly. But at high levels they are formidable indeed. Its funny really they start off one of the weakest chars and end up one of the most powerful.

I haven't tried the solo adventure yet but I would imagine that it would be difficult. On the weak at the beginning and strong at the end isn't it the same way with the magic users?

I tend not to like classes/kits that forbid you to use certain types of items, just as a general rule. I'm not saying Monks are a poor choice, but their variety is limited simply because of the great multitude of magical items they'll never get to use.

I have found the monk an extremely fun charecter with his quivering palm attack and stunning blow. I wish u could get Balthazzars moves.
But for some reason i used quivering palm and my guy turned into elminster with my stas???? weird

One more thing I should mention about monks, they are the only character who i have seen kill a dragon in 1 PUNCH!!!!!

I used quivering palm on the silver dragon and it just droped dead instantly, as you can imagine I was pleasantly surprised (greater malison and lower resistance had been cast first though)

Im currently playing a party with some characters i had never used and it is pretty fun:

undead hunter
monk
kensai -> thief
avenger
bard (i dont know the name of the kit in english, its the one who can have 3 * in two weapons style)
sorceror (i had played this one previously but i simply love it )

im having a lot of fun (playing in insane difficulty level), though its kinda hard coz only the paladin uses full armor, and only the druid uses any other armor. Im willing to get both the use any item ability for the kensai and some mail for the bard
