Havn't seen the second one (opens boxing day) but i was dissapointed with the changes in the first. In particular the barrow wight. I have seen some excellent artwork inspired by LotR but the best was an impression of the wight in the barrow downs. Hence i was looking forward to seeing Pete's impression and was let down. Can't say the same for the Balrog though. That thing was way cooler than even i imagined.

also what im really hoping for is a remaking of the hobbit in the same vein.
I'd watch the whole 27 hours with you... TWICE!

I think the success of this series gaurantees a Hobbit prequel.

PJ already stated that he has no desire to make a Hobbit prequel, but would be happy to go see one. He already has his next movie lined up, a WWII zombie movie! lol.

A WWII zombie movie? That should be interesting.

Personally though I think the animated version of the Hobbit will be hard to beat. It was pretty much spot on and very well done.

Yeah, I think it's great he is going something totally different. Since after the success of just FotR he could have done pretty much anything he wanted
The animated Hobbit was my first experience with "fantasy", and I've loved it since I was a kid. I had the video tape, and this year bought it on DVD.

I liked the animated Hobbit too! They've been offering it on our pay for view (cable) lately. Guess everyone's in a Lord of the Rings mood lately!

Maybe we could get the Japanese to make a new-and-improved version of the animated Hobbit and LOtR. That'd be cool!

but i understand the osgilliath thing insofar as he wanted to a) show frodos fraility compared to the ring and how powerful it is as well as showing sauron amassing his forces, but it was really offbook that part of it without needing to be, plus far as i remember the eastern shores arent taken until sauron begins his assault which doesnt happen till a bit lateron
Grungi, your term "offbook" is great I think I'll adopt it, if you've no objections. As far as Osgiliath is concerned it seems to me that in the book Sauron's forces controlled and maintained a small garrison on the eastern shore of Osgiliath for an indeterminate amount of time prior to Frodo's arrival at Henneth Annun, could be wrong though.

There's an animated version of 'the Hobbit'??!! I've never heard of that. When was it made? And more importantly, where can I get myself a copy???
