I noticed that if my characters level up that the amount of hit points they get changes each time I reload and level up again. How is one supposed to know the max number of hit points a character should get. Also, I dont understand this hit dice thing. I have no idea what a hit die is to be quite honest. Can somebody please break that down for me. I am in need of help here. This is my first game like this. Oh, yeah I would like to give a shout out to my boys in DC! One love.. And Big Mike... I know you in lock down but we gonna get you out of their.. Stay strong brother... Keep your head up...

Welcome to IW! Not related to Hagar are you?

I'm not an expert on matters AD&D, but hit dice (HD) are how hit points are determined. In the AD&D world, fighters get a 10 sided HD (number from 1 to 10) whilst preists get 8, rogues 6 and mages 4. That's the *max* number of hps they can gain per level (excluding bonuses due to high constitution).

So a level 1 fighter with 10 hps gets another 1 to 10 hps when he levels up. This is random, which is why the numbers differ when you reload & level up again.

Note that once a character reaches level 10, he only gets 3 hps (fighter), 2 or 1 (mage) when he levels up.

Note that I've ignore CON bonuses. They add additional hps depending on the CON of the character.

On the config(?) page there is an option that gives you maximum HP every time you gain a level.

And on to the CON-bonuses: from CON 15 to 18 a fighter/paladin/ranger gains 1 to 4 bonus HP pr. lvl (up to level 9 - after that fighter gains 3HP pr lvl)

clerics/rouges/mages can max. get +2 bonus CON pr level (for CON 16) - after level 9 these classes gain 2/1/1 HP pr lvl.

Hope this helps

AND WELCOME TO IW
