Hellgate London Demo
The Hellgate London demo came out yesterday.
The game is pretty fun. It play just like an updated 3d version of diablo. Randomized maps, randomized loot, classes with skill trees etc. They did add some new features. For example there's the situational button. When you are running if you press shift will will use your sprint ability. If you're a marksman and standing still it will use your shooting stance. If you're targeting a monster it will use your favourite attack skill. I guess if you have a buff spell it would use it if you target an ally too. In the demo you have access to two classes. The Marksman and the Swordsman. The marksman get skills like grenades, explosions, burst fire, sniping. The Swordsman get frenzy skills, auras, charge skills, whirlwind etc. But the class I really can't wait to try is the mage. Anyone else tried it?

Looks pretty good. The ELUA is a bit scary though with you basically giving them rights to report on and scan any programs or hardware running in the background while playing.

Re: Hellgate London Demo
They do the same thing in WoW, to detect cheating. Hellgate is going to have a subscription mode with servers and I guess they don't want hacks on it. But it's not like you'll be running anything sensitive in the background while playing the game anyway.

Wow, can't see everything else thats running or whats on the machine, but Hellgate is designed to scan hard drives and find out what else you are playing. It's all part of the subjective Ad ware (certain ad's will be shown to certain users)
Sorry, but I really just don't believe in in-game advertising at the moment and this game doesn't impress me enough to want to let one slip through. |

Re: Hellgate London Demo
Battlefield 2142 tried the ingame ads thing too. They gave up on that I think.
I did see a poster for Dark Horse Comics on a wall ingame in the demo. It was right there at the outpost and I didn't notice it until my second play through. If that's what the ads they plan to use will look like I don't mind, they fit in and it's not much different than the made up posters they usually use in other modern games. Edit: I took a screenshot See, that's not so bad, a real poster between a bunch of faded fake ones. Last edited by Luvian; 10-20-2007 at 02:38 AM. |

Re: Hellgate London Demo
I almost find it more immersive to have things like that in a game...but, I don't mind in-game advertising, so long as I don't have to "Do the Dew" to beat the boss.
Besides, advertising in games is ancient news. Anybody remember Chex Quest? It was a computer game bundled with Chex Cereal in the early nineties, and was, itself, an ad. Didn't make parents prevent kids from playing it. Plus, you're not going to see lewd advertisements, even if your hard drives are *ahem* full of *ahem* questionable content. Oh, and HG:L looks friggin sweet, but I'm holding off my purchase until release.
