Well I posted this a while back with not very good response but in everyones opinion who is better a sorceror or a mage? Why? I think mage because of the variety of spells. Maybe if sorcerors could use spears like in dnd.....
Oh, one more thing does anyone know if there is a throne of bhall for mac or any mods for mac? Thanks in advance.

This discussion has allready had its due replies .. quite some threads about this count more than 3 pages.
Guess most people got the point
Anywayz, the discussion is actually quite simple, as the sorcerer knows no equal at higher lvls. It has to do with a tactic that only a sorcerer can truly perfect,.. and still stay versatile, which gives you unlimited spells.

Anywayz, if Dundee has the energy to type it yet again, he'll explain, he's the sorcerer-guru here ... well just general guru actually

I don't know about your second question, but the first one I can answer! Read my Sig! Of cours sorcerors! You'r right, they don't have such a huge spell variety, but nevertheless they are better! You allways have the exact spells available that you want (no memorization like wiz) so you are ready for every fight. Yes you have to know which spells are the best for you, so you should first play a wizard. In my opinion it doesn't really matter what you are in a normal game (party), because you have your other mages with you(or don't you?). When soloing, however I really prefer a SORCERER. This is my firm opinion, and I only choose normal mages when I intend to double-class them, like in my present game: kensai-mage [second time soloing...sort of ] When it comes to mage vs secialist mage, I would choose mage. What do I care about 1extra spell/lvl if I can't use my favorites (and i have 1 of those in every school)?
As for spears...Sorcerers have relatively litle hp, so let your tank go first, or stay away and use spells when you are soloing.
I hope this mess of a post won't confuse you rather than help u...

Past midnight on my side of the world now, so I am just browsing through. Back in the old days, when my apprentices were regular posters on this forum and the ToB forum, they would deal with the task of explaining the benefits of Sorcerers over regular Mages, saving me the trouble.

A toast to Fuzzy Animal and Mitro Jellywadder, it has been a pleasure teaching you on what I know about Sorcerers, and trading information at the same time.

Like Chill Touch, Infravision, Strength, Hold Undead, Enchanted Weapon, Oracle, Carrion Summons, Disintegrate, and Black Blade of Disaster? Yeah, Sorcerers are at a real disadvantage not knowing THOSE spells.

Hmmmm... actually Black Blade of Disaster is a good spell when used in conjunction with Time Stop. Fighter/Mages benefit more from it though, because they have more attacks per round.

Which reminds me... I need to replace Spellstrike from my spell list, because I usually end up never using it... ...

Imprisonment? BBoD? Hmmmm... so few good choices. Ah-ha! Shapechange. Will edit the spell list to reflect the new information tomorrow. Too late for my comfort to fiddle around with HTML now.

Spellstrike is indeed a joke.

Imprisonment takes the fun out of the game. Really.

BBoD is for Kensai/Mages.

Shapechange is indeed very fun... But i use it only with simmies.
Why?
Have the simmy cast shapechange (from a scroll if you're not at high level).
Shapechange into an Iron Golem.
Voila! The best tank summon ever!
A melee monster, and immune to magic!
Plus, because he's a simmy, he's also un-true-sightable and undispellable!

And if you indeed intend to pick Shapechnage with your Sorcerer....

*** Cheese Alert! ***

Project Images can't attack?! Bah!
Have your image cast Shapechange.
You'll be surprised...

I am intrigued by your comment regarding PI and SC. Thought of a name for the tactic already?

Enlighten me!
I'm not very creative when it comes to names...

Have you tried it?

*** Another Cheese Alert ***

Stick 3 PI into a Chain, and set condition to Helpless (yea, right... )
Now, cast PI yourself.
Voila!
4 Images!
Nothing new so far, right? We all knew that old trick...
But now, cast Shapechange with all of them!
Build an army of Iron Golems, Mind Flayers, Greater Wolfweres (Werewolves?), etc...
All of them can attack!
