How do u kill the Tactic Moded Mae'var(wrong spelling?) I am a level 12 Invoker, and I can't seem to kill even one of his little thieves... Stoneskin and Mirror Image lasts too short, they ALWAYS get a save from my Web, Ice storm and Cloud Kill doesn't seem to damage them much, fireball doesn't kill them... my wands gets drained too QUICKLY... and then when all my spells r drained, I've got nowhere to go but to wait for my death while invisbe... Can any one help me ??? Please...? I dont play Mages, and this is my first one... so any help will be aprreciated. Thanx

Are you soloing ?
If yes, level 12 might be a little hard or atleast take some very carefull planning.

A few tricks:
-Go invisible first
-After that, make the thieves follow you around ( they'll hear you ) and lure them into the cell on your right hand. The other cell has an innocent in it.
-Summon some critters then .. no thieves will come to disrupt you
-Make sure you dispel/kill mea'var's Mislead. He'll stay invisible as long as you dont dispel/kill his mislead ( standing in the back ).
-Cast Greater Malison before any save vs.-spells .. out of sight if possible
-Try to charm the cleric, he'll help dispose of his own summoned skeletons and act as fodder for mae'var.
-Leave the thieves in the cell and just slowly take them out with fireballs and Skulltraps from a distance

At all times, be aware of mae'var !! You do not want mea'var concentrating on you. He attacks with Melf's Minute Meteors, so that will probably start disrupting your spellcasting very very quik .. if it doesnt kill you even quiker.

If you can go Improved invisible, plz do so .. mea'var wont know what to do sometimes .. and it disables most of his damaging spells ( cant cast them at you ).

I have been succesfull in charming/dominating Mae'var a few times .. works quite often ( greater malison first ) .. he has a very impressive arsenal of spells. Try to get him to cast spells at himself ( Melf's acid arrows'd be good ), make him unequip his weapon and use fists. Things like that

Hope it helpz

Also, try to search for improved mae'var using the search-function.
There have already been quite a few threads about it

Just attack his lackies first then after a few rounds, his protection spells will wear off and you'll be able to nail him.

Both Daan and Xen offered some nice tactical solutions. Besides that, Mae'Var always seemed to be a sucker for Chaos in my games.

Question: What is your alignment?

For starter... I used Imp. Kitthix yesterday... and Woooyoooo!! that is one strong little fellow.

He also helped me to nock down Imp. Mae'var & co., with a few webs (3 a 4) and some spider summons...after 2 a 3 minutes nothing was breathing anymore..

Since Mae'Var's entire building is not a "you must gather your party before venturing forth" area, this brings up the possibility of a two-pronged attack: Jan, under a Potion of Invisibility, 2 Potions of Fire Resistance, and the Cloak of Non-Detection (possibly Spell Immunity: Divination, if required) sneaks in the back way (the wharf door) and stands there Detecting Illusions. Poof goes their Invisibility, and probably Mislead as well. Meanwhile, the Thieves who can somehow hear Jan are all clustered around him, leaving the rest of the party free to troop down the stairs, summon some critters, and then Fireball/Insect Plague the hell out of Jan.

There's a line about "It takes a thief/mage to catch a thief/mage" in there somewhere....

if you plan on casting spells, even web, use greater malison first. if you can lower their saving throws then webs + improved kittix or holds + fireballs/cloudkills should work, or you can allways do it the uber hard way, buff your party, hold em, charm his cleric for fodder, then blast away with spells are melee.
