I prefer the original Diablo, it had more of that "What's around the next corner?" atmosphere than Diablo 2 which was more outside, also, Diablo 1's dungeon was more random that Diablo 2's, many of which aren't random, I also liked Diablo 1's music better.

Diablo 2 seems a lot more linear - I loved it with the expansion added

However, Diablo 1 (with Hellfire) had a better feel to it I think

IMO D1 was a better game, but D2 had an improved engine. You could run etc(as above).
