Don't forget, all the characters you see in the Star Wars saga are actually not human. They're actually aliens -- they just happen to look human, that's all. So naturally their rate of aging etc would be different from ours. Hey, they're supposed to have lived millions of years ago in a galaxy millions of light years away, aren't they?

Heh, I'd be more than willing to believe that... anything, but to find it so illogical The only other reason would be akin to those gongfu shows whereby the lady warriors take age-defying/preserving pills to maintain their youthful looks while they continue to age mentally, etc.

OK guys, perhaps we are being a little bit Pedantic. If that's the worst thing we can find about the movie, then maybe it's pretty good!

Lucas borrowed all sorts of things from everywhere to brew up his SW hodge-podge -- including gongfu films. The name Padme Amidala is frankly borrowed from Buddhist literature; 'Padme' just too obviously resembles the Sanskrit padma meaning 'lotus', while 'Amidala' in turn all too obviously resembles Amitabha, the name of a well-known Buddhist deity. The 'Force' thing is also plainly ripped from Chinese philosophical ideas, while the resemblance of the Jedi to Japanese Kendo fighters is again plainly obvious. And dear Yoda -- doesn't he look like one of those ancient bearded East Asian sages? The whole thing's just a crazy hodge-podge.

Perhaps if Lucas included some tall, handsome, muscular, half-naked barbarians in his saga along the lines of the Scorpion King, whose powers would make the Jedi look like a bunch of nerds... Perhaps then I'll go watch a SW movie for the first time.

ROFL you ARE reaching here, striving to find any link to anything bad or what could be considered a rip-off. You seem to totally focus on it from an asian point of view, but it IS a western movie whether you want to know it or not. The Star Wars movies were made for kids in the first place and so were meant to be slightly comical. I very much doubt George Lucas is a "master" of knowledge of eastern words and phrases such as you
As for the Jedi, they for the most part do not rely on other weapons but the lightsaber, since they have the skill to use it as a near impenetrable shield as well as a weapon. They use others weapons against them. And why does the force have to be connected to religion in some way? It is a natural force in the Star Wars universe, the equivilent of "magic" in a fantasy world. The lightsaber is a much a tradition of the Jedi as much as a personal weapon.

"Don't forget, all the characters you see in the Star Wars saga are actually not human."

Acutally no you are quite wrong People who look like humans ARE humans, that was the whole purpose of The Empire that all aliens were inferior and that humans are the ones that should rightly rule the universe, pretty much like the Ordos Xenos ideals in the WH40K universe. You may not like Star Wars personally but dont make assumptions that just prove your ignorance. I am not a rabid fan of the movies, but I do quite like the books set in the Star Wars universe

SW being made for kids? I don't know that kids can understand things like 'Senate', 'Trade Federations' and the like. I think SW is more for people who don't want to grow up. As for being comical, my impression is that the SW saga is about as dead serious as you can get, Jar Jar Binks aside. After all, it's supposed to be about war, about the horrors of war with people getting butchered and worlds getting blown apart and what not. And here's my biggest gripe with SW: I honestly find it a bit difficult to feel serious about, to feel concerned for, totally imaginary people with corny names like Qui-Gon Jinn or Padme or whatever. What's wrong with names like John, Mary or K T Ong?

About the 'force' thing, nothing in the SW saga looks like 'magic' to me. I've already discussed that in an earlier post.

People who look like humans ARE humans? Well, dunno, maybe in the SW universe, but certainly not elsewhere. Superman looks human, but he isn't human. No human can fly or lift a Concorde. Klingons look like humans, but they're not. Elves, dwarves and hobbits look human, but they're not. External appearances establish nothing.

As I've said in another earlier post in this thread, I have nothing against all this SW crap so long as I don't have to be bombarded by it well nigh every moment of my waking life -- which unfortunately is becoming very difficult.

K T Ong,

One way of avoiding hearing about Star Wars "crap", is to stop opening threads that discuss it!

Just a thought!

When I say "Open", I really mean "look at", "read", "browse through", "access", "peruse", not necessarily create.
Sorry for the misunderstanding!
