Grungi mate.

If you were in the rubber with me and a few of my muckers, rifle in yer sky and a smile on yer boat....you could sit and shant with us but you would hardly understand what we were saying....not quite true obviously. You would understand the English words but struggle to keep up with the conversation because of the hardcore slang.

Believe me, it's how I commonly speak (among friends, in my local shops, the pub.) I post in common English to be understood.

When I was in Florida at the summer I had to invent some words to confuse people. Or talk about made up things. And the good old haggis stories are funny.

Also it is annoying how you call everything different like rolls and not understand egg physics. And you all seem to like bacon crispy.

The fact that you can't pick it up with a fork. Or you can after it is in a gazillion little bits when you push bits onto the fork. Its like crisps, really.

Poor spelling. Rub a Dub = Pub. Rubbah, rubber (dub) pub. My bad.

Oddly enough regarding accents. I just had a real good Jamaican mate of mine round. He just left. He has the most beautiful, slow, laid back kind of drawling speech. There is absolutely no way most people on this forum would understand him, he still speaks patwa. I understand him through years upon years of friendship and I think, the westernisation of his accent. I still struggle to understand his son (he came from Jamaica last year), I have to speak to him face on because although he speaks English/Patwa I just can't understand him properly over the phone. (Dog)

Odd that he should turn up when talking about accents.

(EDIT) PS. I never saw Lock, Stock so maybe we're talking at loose ends...

ah okay, phew im not going mad then yes i know rub a dub dub at least.
watch lock stock a) a very good film and b) theres a bit where danny john jules (cat out of reddwarf) goes to a story in hardcore cockney, its subtitled and he uses everything he can get his tongue round basically, its quite funny, anyhows watch it!

i understand jamaicans normally when they speak, i like the language i must admit, i imitate it quite a bit "ay mon, would you like some of me ganga mon?" they do get pretty hard esp the older guys (ever watch jamaica uncovered on sky one? with the old guy sending his child out to pick some weed for him to smoke, he was v.hard to understand but funny the way he spoke)

use your fingers to pick it up then if i cant stab something with a fork i go for fingers, easier to dip it in the baked beans then for the sauce

Lol, reminds me of a time in Spain. I was standing behind some old Brit in a line for food. He was trying to order things in English, and the poor guy behind the counter couldn't understand a word. The old guy didn't try to change his accent though. He just shouted louder and louder and pointed until he was understood

Just for the record, I know what Charlie sounds like, and his Cockney accent sometimes is so thick I can't tell what the hell he is saying LOL, not to mention he talks so fast to boot, it is really funny how a person can speak English words, but I not only can't understand half the words he is saying, but even when I do his words don't make sense to me LOL! I have spent a lot of time saying "What?" "Can You Repeat That?" "I Didn't Quite Get That?" "What Does That Phrase Mean?" etc., etc., etc... Thing is, if he makes an effort, he can talk slowly and I can understand him perfectly, just get him when he is all relaxed and discussing a particular subject, off he goes, into Cockney land, where everyone talks and walks a mile a second, and nobody on the "outside" can understand completely everything what is being said! It's quite funny actually, I enjoy trying to "decipher"!

Although in summary, I have to say Ramon y Ramon y Ramon's accent was the most difficult for me to understand (German), even though he was speaking English, that accent just made it so difficult (used to multiplay using Yahooo Voice Conference BGI with him and Bilqis ages ago).

Oh what rot. It's all relative. To a South African a Californian has a strong accent.
