On the Aussie matter, I am unmoved. I am Australian and lived in Australia for 29 years with time spent in every state except Tasmania, and I can assure you, the New Zealand accent is noticable to us. What more can I say? Finally, your new point of Cockney being "a whole way of speech" is precisely what I was referring to. It is not a "whole way of writing." You cannot discern an accent from writing. As a matter of interest, Australian English has it's origins in Cockney. [ 01-23-2003, 11:42 AM: Message edited by: Yorick ] |

When I first met Charlie I had a bit of trouble understaning him but you get used to it. I can even understand some of his cockney slang every now and again. Hey Charlie, have you been drilled about this lately?
