Got that in a chain email passed onto me by one of my friends.

What does it mean exactly? It's the first time I've seen anything like this from MSN.

Ignore it. You'll never get chain emails from MSN.

Maybe the dash *is* is the chain email.

Lol, it was an official looking MSN message, proper background, logos etc. But still fake.

So it's a fake chain-mail letter then? Thanks for clearing that up, but why would somebody instigate it?

I can't be sure, but it has become more common, usualyy coming from banks, who using authentic looking email redirect you to an equally authentic looking fake website, get you to log on to your online account and swipe your details. I urge caution what ever it is. Mail MSN, they would be keen to sort this out i would think, the banks seem to have been.
