I’m curious.. How much are you are and your partner alike? Do you share hobby’s, interests, political preference.. or maybe none of the above? And do you like to be with someone who comes close to being your mirror image, or would you prefer someone with whom you have absolutely nothing in common?

I've always liked a mix. My wife and I have similiar politics (I'm a bit more liberal). Different tastes in music, movies, and books. But enough overlap that we can still share in all three. Oh and I am diffenately the cook in the family
She's a New York City woman (via 10 years in Austin, Tx and I'm a West Coast guy. We make a good pair [ 12-12-2003, 04:46 PM: Message edited by: Rokenn ]

I used to think that the perfect couple, to me, was one where there were enough common interests to be able to have fun together, but enough differences that life would never be boring. A well-matched couple should be able to play trivial persuit successfully and have each know which catagories were 'theirs'.
I recognise that that last bit is a very old criteria... and I'm not even sure people here will remember what trivial persuit was.

I never used to give the whole similarities/differences thing much thought, but over time and with a few relationships under my belt, it's slowly become something to think about for me. In general, I like my girl to be fairly similar to me, with a few interesting quirks that I have to deal with. It's important that our personalities, values, priorities, future plans, work ethic etc. are all reasonably synchronized, because I think these are fundamental elements that genuinely determine compatibility. Things like upbringing, tastes, interests, and (life) experiences are all workable variables in my book; I think these can vary greatly between two people without ever really harming the bond they share. Just my own personal observations so far in life

I DEFINITELY would not want my girl to be somewhat similar to me. My personality is that "I do what I want, when I want and how I want it to be done". If my girl is happen to be like that too god knows what will happen.
I would like my girl to be somewhat like my mum? err...strict, strong will, able to control people. err..gee did I said that? |

it's the comfort... it's the feeling of wanting to be with her and all that... the chemistry... the mix will determine it...
what i mean is... you don't really have to pick someone because of their interests... try mingling with them and you will find out for soon if your strengths and weaknesses compliment each other |

Just like German are, she´s a little arrogant to my taste, but I don´t find any other faults. We´ve never (2y together) discussed about politics. Different music taste and totally opposite interests. It´s often difficult to cope with that, but we come along great.
Sumthin like that
