Though I've been playing W&W for a very long time, today was my first time of using Bloodlust (sorry for calling it Bloodthirst in the topic line) and Frenzy, in combo with Bless and Heroic Might which I had used occasionally. With Invisibility on top of all this, the Hydra was history after about six rounds (even less, I think) and I was ever so thrilled to see my chars do, like, 200 damage.
I've always been wondering why people bother with these spells, now I know!!

They really can help tip the balance, Traute. Even using "Bless" when you're first starting out, and if you use those ubiquitous "Bloodlust" potions the rogues are so kind to drop, that can REALLY help a starting party.

I just started collecting the potions for the very first time. Summoner shall be arriving tomorrow or the day after; if I don't like it, I shall have enough to try out to start yet another game.

Yes, Bloodlust is an excellent spell. I combine it with Heroic Might and Haste. I do not use Frenzy because it is rather dangerous: it allows you to do great damage but you can be damaged excellently, too. Figure out Frenzy + Fury trait! All my characters have the Fury trait.
Bless is less useful because it is weak. Well, we cannot expect much from a level 1 spell which affects the whole party. Nevertheless, Bless is a good beginner's spell.
