Welcome to the board BOld Hal!!!

That fire pit has stumped almost every player!!!

Try having one of your character (lead character) CARRY a chest or crate and then RUN (shift key) as fast as you can toward the gate, the chest should keep the gate open long enough for you to get through!

Check out the BEST TIPS thread too!!

Hi! Dragonrider here. If you are going thru the wizard fire pit. The easiest way is to go only thru the first fire and back up; cast heal on your party members. This will set the gate to open. Make sure you are lined up for a straight run. Press the shift key (run) first and then the up (forward) arrow on the keyboard. This will get you through the fire with minimum damage. Make sure that you cast heal again before you drop down the hole. You will need it.

Lavawalk prevents the fires from burning you. If you cannot cast Lavawalk, use the "chest method". Do not forget to save game before running - the method sometimes (not too often) fails. Reload and try again. Also, it helps sometimes to step into the first fire, step back and run (with a chest).
