Somewhat later in the first age (LotR roleplay part 2)

For Therlion:

Kalam came to see Therlion that night. He was in a hurry and was wearing a weapon and some armor.

"Therlion. Prepare yourself. My father has ordered me to go on a mission with you outside the town. Either he wants to test you, or he places his trust to fast. Meet me at the main gate in a quarter of an hour."-with that he left before Therlion had the chance of protesting.

[Bozos of Bones]

"Test me? He doesn't know..!" but Kalam ran out in a hurry. Therlion grabbed his half-robes and sword, and started fastening his knives as he left, following Kalam.

For Therlion:

As Therlion got nearer to the gate he could see small groups of people gathering here and there walking towards the gate. At the gate a group of about fifty soldiers were gathered around Kalam on horseback. An aide led a horse towards Therlion.

Do you know how to ride a horse? - he heard Kalam's voice drift over the crowd. The people on the edge of the street were talking in whispers among themselves. Therlion could catch references to himself being an elf.

"Yes, I know how to ride one." Therlion replied as he mounted a horse. He neared Kalam and asked "What is happening here? Why are people here? Surely it's not to wish us farewell on our mission."

For Therlion:

As soon as Therlion was on a horse the group started moving out the gate. Once outside the gate Kalam started explaining to Therlion.

"Scouts have indicated to us the presence of a large group of wild men from the hills two days ride south of here. These men have always been the enemy of our people for generations. It appears that our town was built on some holy site of theirs. They are the tribe of the Urgilths and about once every generation they try to capture our city. My father ordered me to go out with a scouting party to determine exactly what we are facing. He also said that I should take you with me. I do not know why, maybe he though that an elf could see things others would not."

Kalam then drew his horse closer to Therlion's and added in a whisper.

"But my father has never shown trust this fast before. I fear he had other reasons for this. Some of the men in this group aren't truly scouts, but soldiers who usually do his dirty work for him."

[Bozos of Bones]

"Then I'll keep my weapons loose." Therlion looked over the men around and turned to Kalam again "Is there a chance your father knows about our plan? This might be a way for him to get rid of you."

For Therlion:

"He might, and he might not, I do not know whether there was only one messenger sent from the stronghold. But my spies in my father's household tell me that I am not in danger. Now let us catch up with the others, we have a long night's ride ahead of us."

Trotting up his horse's pace, he started thinking about places that were a nights ride away. Therlion asked another question "Where are we going anyway?"

For Therlion (the active member!!):

"Scouts said that a large group of the wild men is advancing down one of the mountain valleys two days ride away from here. By now they will have gotten closer. The mission is to slow their advance, while my father prepares the town's defences."

[Bozos of Bones]

"Slow their advance? That doesn't assure me of our chances of living through this." Therlion drew a long breath "I am hoping you have a plan, for I have next to no knowledge of this terrain nor the enemy we are about to face."
