I own one, and they are great! Had it 2 years now, and Its a 1.9Ghz, 15 inch screen, CDR/DVD player 500Mb Ram and a 40Gb HD.. With USB 2.0, firewire, modem and network card.

It's awesome enough to run my NWN server off of, and its been running sometimes for days--now I run it on my Alienware...

Anyway, Sony makes a killer laptop. So does IBM--Thinkpads are awesome, but cost WAY much more for the same thing.

How much do they go for, anyway? I'm a entrance-level college student who needs one before school starts this fall...

It depends on the model, but most Vaio notebooks are very expensive for what they are.

You're paying for the "Sony" name.

Sony Vaio (Australia)

IMO, Apple make the best laptops.

My sister has one, and she loves it. She's got a small compact one, it's a 14" screen and it's about 1 inch thick, if that. Keyboard's a bit small, but packs a lot of power.

I dunno...everything TEchTV has taught me has pointed me toward agreeing with Gokuzool on this one...plus I'm not gonna have super funds to waste on aesthetics...but battery-life, software, and sys. specs...he he he...

I guess it all depends on whether you want a Mac or a PC.
