Stick the ring of regeneration on him and you'll never need healing again. Also in terms of background of the game I think the fighter is the most realistic choice for several reasons
a) You're the protagonist, the rest of the party is there to support you. Your character is supposed to lead.
b) There are good examples of the other major classes in the npc's but not fighters. Kurggan is good but he is evil which goes against the spirit of the game and only has axes. With a fighters benifit of five slots in a proficiency you want to be able to pick what weapon you want to advance in. All the other classes only get one or two slots so where they have their choices to start off with doesn't matter to much as you'll fill them all eventually.
c) Your character is the child of the God of murder. I feel those instincts would manifest as a fighter. The slayer, which is you giving in to your blood, is a vicious hand to hand creature.

Suffice to say every class is good and will do well in the game providing you play them right. Yes even fighters. I'm going to convince everyone that fighters do rule if it's the last thing that I do.

Actually, I hope it does. Allmost ALL the mages I know keep bragging they're so good and their Melf Minute Shit is so ass kickin'it hurts 2 look at.
Somebody ever played Lineage ? Its a MMORPG where you can choose Knight, Wizard, Elf or Princess. And you know what ? Everyone is a mage !!! The worst thing is they have all the same graphics so the f*ckin' game is filled with white guys casting the same spell. When you play a fighter (like I did) you dont have a chance in there. If you want to kill a Flying Orb (beholder-like creature, good exp.) you hunt him for half an hour, just 2 see some mages cast some spells from long distance and kill it and take yer loot !!! And they even dare to insult you for being a weak Knight !!! At least I have the guts to play something else than cast 'n run all the time.
Several of these games dont respect fighters, and so it made me have a terible hate for mages. Really, I can drink their blood... Waaaaaaargh... Mages should be banned from the the Gameing World. Buncha sissys...

I played a pure fighter in BG1 for the specialisation extras, but the kits in BG2 were colourful enough, I've done it as the Undead Hunter, Berserker and Sorceror. Nice change

I really don't see anything wrong with enjoying playing a fighter! OK, so it's not my first choice of PC, but then I always take an NPC Ranger/Pally/Fighter in my party to make sure I can go 'head to head' if need be. I think I'd be stuffed if I didn't take along an NPC warrior of some description.

For crying out loud, if Titan likes fighters, there's nothing wrong with that at all! It's not like he's saying magic is crap or anything, I expect he has mages/priests whathaveyou in his party, but if he identifies best with a fighter PC, so be it!!!

There is no right or wrong to this argument, think about it!

I prefer using "bog standard" characters myself. First time a Fighter, second a Fighter/Thief.
