Costs a bloody fortune here in OZ.
I'm looking at upgrading my memory as I've only got 256MB and about 90% of it is utilised on a regular basis. Unfortunately I'm one of those unlucky suckers with a Dell 8100 mainboard which uses RDRAM which costs a motza here in Sydney. To put things in perspective, a 128MB stick costs about $150 normally - and since I have to install mine in pairs you double that cost - $300 for 256MB. What I wanted to know was how much do these suckers cost in the US? I'm wondering if it's cheaper to get from the US than from here, where hardly anyone uses them. My specs are: System Memory Controller Location : Mainboard Error Correction Capability : ECC Number of Memory Slots : 4 Maximum Installable Memory : 2GB Bank 1 - RIMM_1 : RIMM RAMBUS RDRAM 64MB/18 @ 300Mt/s Bank 2 - RIMM_2 : RIMM RAMBUS RDRAM 64MB/18 @ 300Mt/s Bank 3 - RIMM_3 : RIMM RAMBUS RDRAM 64MB/16 @ 300Mt/s Bank 4 - RIMM_4 : RIMM RAMBUS RDRAM 64MB/16 @ 300Mt/s Logical/Chipset 1 Memory Banks Bank 0 : 128MB RDRAM 8/7CL Bank 1 : 128MB RDRAM 8/7CL Channels : 2 Speed : 2x 300MHz (600MHz data rate) Multiplier : 3/1x Width : 16-bit Refresh Rate : 1.95µs Power Save Mode : No Fixed Hole Present : No Memory Module(s) Memory Module 1 : Samsung MR18R 0824AN1-CG6 226A2E01 64MB/4 (144Mx18) ECC RDRAM RIMM PC600-53 (CL2-2 up to 300MHz) Memory Module 2 : Samsung MR18R 0824AN1-CG6 22132E01 64MB/4 (144Mx18) ECC RDRAM RIMM PC600-53 (CL2-2 up to 300MHz) Memory Module 3 : Samsung MR16R 0824BN1-CK8 39A3E204 64MB/4 (128Mx16) RDRAM RIMM PC800-45 (CL2-2 up to 411MHz) Memory Module 4 : Samsung MR16R 0824BN1-CK8 3937E104 64MB/4 (128Mx16) RDRAM RIMM PC800-45 (CL2-2 up to 411MHz) Can anyone give me a bit more info (even some online stores)? And another question: if my bus speed is 2 x 300mhz for 600mhz, does that mean I can't install PC800 RDRAM? Thanks for the help - as you can tell I'm on an upgrading frenzy right now. I paid $65.00/ea. for my cards of 256MB.
I have four each of that size to give me a Gigabyte of memory. Memory Device Properties: Form Factor RIMM Type Detail RAMBUS Size 256 MB Speed 400 MHz Total Width 16-bit Data Width 16-bit [ 07-11-2004, 06:17 PM: Message edited by: Larry_OHF ]

Check your computer's manual to see if it can handle 800MHz memory. One thing I do know is that if you have different speeds installed (providing they all work) they will all operate at the speed of the slowest module.

Costs a fortune here, hence I was thinking of buying from the US and getting it shipped here. But it looks like I've found a bloke who's willing to sell me 2 x 256MB PC1066 for $120. My motherboard will only run it at 600mhz, but the price was too good to refuse. |
