i couldnt figure out wich face up their on the message icon list i liked best but back to my topic...

err i got this game maybe a year ago? back when it was 60 bucks? I couldnt understand how to play it then, so i put it away clearly disapointed. After played bg2 iwd eq daoc d2 d2lod d, errr dungeon seige and any other rp game i could git my hands on... I STILL AM CONFUSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just dont understand how i am supposed to control my group in first person veiw, give them all specific commands, and if i should be using all 6. Ermmm I am looking at the manual... even if im only 14 i still know how to read a manual, HONEST! and Me is Still confused! how did you guys do a proper strategy, in BG and IWD i was able to make an orderly group assing them in a straight line, with my axe dorf warrior/theif dude, then two warriors, a cleric, a mage, and in BG2 I would usually have a bard (they are all so coooool!) but in IWD i would have a druid. In dungeon seige i did something... like that, I had 3 guys doing nothing but cast healing winds or sumthin that looked cool, 2 guys casting nukes, one guy standing there taking hits while trying to do damage with a staff (half fighter half healer dude) because it looked cool, that was pretty fun as well... But this game, its so HARD!!! I mean how am i supposed to look through one guys eyes and give commands?? Any advice is useful, also does anyone know wich of the many rps that just hit the market i should get? i see a nwn a iwd2 a prince of quin (sum kinda diablo 2 with a chinese touch) all out...

Thank you, any advice is useful, but i mainly want to know the basics of getting a group running in this game, how to apply group strategy, and what you guys did. Also i read the solo forumn already, but would it be ok to start out with one guy clear the begining areas till he is a decent lvl, and has money, then add the other guys? this might help me so they dont all die while trying to kill one thing!

also this is my first post, so if it is to long, just tell me!

Welcome to the Board, MEisCOREY!!!!

The 'Geal Serrans' been waiting....for someone like you
May your sword, always strike...and your arrows, run true

1. Playing a 'Solo' character is the hardest way to play the game. If you have 6 characters they all take a share of the damage in battle and they can all add different strenghts in the rest of game. This way 1 character doesn't have to be everything. (warrior, wizard, preist,...etc)

2. The 'Order' of your party rarely makes that much difference. The Lead character sometimes has an effect on the situation....Like, if you were trying to get through a small opening, then you would select your smallest character to lead....or if you are trying to jump, the character with highest 'Atheletic' skill....or have a 'Whiskas' lead when it's dark. But generally there's no benefit to order. When you battle a single foe...he strikes at the first character, on his first turn. Then the second character, on his next turn and so on.

3. Giving indiviual commands is done by using the icons on the left side of the screen. You can pre-select whether a character will 'Fight' or use a 'Spell'...or...you can select/change when their turn comes up.

4. As far as strategy...Save Early...and Save often..LOL...

IMHO....pick a crew.....start the game, experiment and have Fun...if you start to have second thoughts...Go back to the Inn and Use the 'Reset Adventures' button on the game options menu...and maybe visit the 'BEST TIPS' thread.

Personally ...I think you've done enough reading for now...It's Time to Play...

Welcome to the forum MEisCorey.
Clicking faster doesn't make your charactors hit faster. They all have their own speeds that get faster as they progress. A better strategy is to hit & run the technical turn for this is "run away, run away".
When you are weak at the beginning the trolls & skeletons are hard to fight. Just kill one or two then retire & heal. If you dont have a healer already just hanging around will slowly restore your health & mana. Using ranged attacks like burn or shock helps you stay away.
Remember 'save early, save often'.
Keep us posted with your progress.

Welcome to the boards, MEisCOREY. May your spells and arrows ring true against your foes.

WW is a first-person game, not an overhead 3rd-person game like BG. Don't worry about the lineup -- they'll take care of themselves.

And you can heal in combat, BTW; it's just that natural healing takes time, so in one combat you might heal a hit point. You can cast heal spells during combat, and you can also use healing, great healing, or resture health potions during combat as well. You just have to decide to do that on the spell-casting or potion-toting character's turn.

As for clicking rapidly, like Kev mentioned, every character has their own recovery rate (including monsters). Once they've recovered, they become active and ready to swing a sword again. I tend to do rapid clicking, since I want them to attack again as soon as they are able. If you sit around for too long, your opponents will simply attack you again (once they've recovered).

Until you get up a couple of levels, hit points are at a premium. You can easily run away to Valeia, heal up at the temple, and attack again. The monsters will be waiting for you when you get out. For just starting out, I'd take a full party of six. You'll have more attacks against monsters, and you'll be able to cast more spells. In some battles, my clerics do nothing but heal everyone else...

To run quickly, BTW, hold down the shift key while you're running. Otherwise, you're just walking.

You might want to take a look at the Best Tips thread for some general gaming ideas. I'll warn you -- there are definitely some spoilers in there, but there's also lots of general game info that can really help you out.

And I have to admit that you threw me for a minute with your board name. My brother is named Corey, and to think that he might be wandering here... well, it would make for an interesting night in the Boogre Bar, that's for sure.

lol these icons are so weird!

err anyways

thanks for all the replies its very helpful!

i looked at the tip thred thing... errr ya it didnt really fix my problem that i suck, i tried heling a member in my group during battle and nothing happened.

errrr is it ok if i do that make a char enter it into group take gold git rid of char, over and over, are is that for loosers who cheat because they cant play the game fairly and etc etc (i usualy go on but this is a board and usually people that use boards have enuf intelect to imagion the next words =))

anyways ill try again, but errm can i git a bit of racial advice? i cant decide if i like the pixie wiz or ratling wiz, and i still dont understand why i want a whiskas warrior... been thinking about a whiskas rogue though

anyone play eq here? i been lookin at how some of the weird races resemble eachother... the pig race is ugly like the trolls in eq, green and both have a lot of str... the lizard race is like the iksy, both have high agi and are lizards.. the whiskas are nothing like the vah shir but both are cats... i think i like how the ratling is like the halfling except cooler! i might just make a whole group of ratling dudes! hrmm 3 thiefs, 2 half wizard half clerics, 1 thug that dies constantly but anyways... i have to kill them trolls befor anything els! right?

Well the gold "cheat" is something almost everyone in here have used from time to time. Why do it, you ask. Simply because there´s no other way to get the funds you need, sure you can buy a +1 arrow and sell it and keep doing it a million times or fully bless dragonarrows and sell them for a million a piece. To put it simply I think it´s laziness

You mention that you got killed while running? Did you hold down Shift? Tyr that and you´ll outrun any monster in the game.
On to your wizards then . I´d definitively not use a ratling as a wizard. No I´d make the rogue a ratling (they´ve got the gold digger trait which gives you additional gold from chests etc.). Pixies make good spellcasters, not because of their high intelligence but because they´ve got the dodge trait and therefore is very hard to hit for the opponents. I ususally end up with a pixie priest and an elf wizard (+2 int). You can also try an Oomphaz wizard, that´s the only class Oomphaz´s aren´t useless in . Go ahead and try whatever you want. If you decide you don´t like it, simply go back to the Inn in Valeia and remove the character you dislike and replace him/her with a new one .

And finally on to the trolls. You did remember to buy and equip your partymembers with equipment right? And when in combat check the textbox that relays the action to you. Does it say "Xxxxxx misses (Out of Range)"? In that case you must get closer to your opponents! And don´t use bows, use swords! You´ll kill those trollies in no time! Good luck!
And welcome to the boards!!

but u also must be careful. even if u r like TOUCHING the monster u r attacking, some weapons u equip cannot be used 2 STRIKE the enemy. an example is the wand u will get from a spirit (AFTER killing the spirit) in the crypt very soon in the game. i equipped it but the text box kept saying "Xxxxxxx misses (out of range)" even when i was almost KISSING the enemy!!!
so a word of advice, always check ur textbox n ur weapons, u never know when they might fail you...........

Welcome to the board, MEisCOREY!!!

Learning how to play a new game, especially if it is very different from other games you have played, takes a bit of time but you'll get the hang of it and we're here to help!

Click on each of your characters in turn and look to the left hand window of options - this is where you set up if they are fighting with their swords or using their bow or going to cast spells. You can set this all up before going into battle.

On you computer options screen, make your settings easy until you get to understand how the game works. Especially set combat to turn based so even though in the thick of a fight things may look fast and furious, you actually do have time to change what your characters are doing - change from one spell to another spell, or one weapon to another.

SAVE SAVE SAVE - and not just to the same game save slot - keep several going. Being able to restore your game to just a short time before they got wiped out is a very good thing!

Go ahead and use the gold cheat for your first game. Doing so allows you to buy better equipment and training etc. all of which will help while you are learning the interface for W&W. Eventually, when you finally feel comfortable with how to play the game, you can start over without using the gold cheat if you like or if it adds to your enjoyment of the game - continue to use it! HAVE FUN!!!

Hope that helps and we'll be hearing success stories from you next!
