You are right about that Attalus, you also have to remember that US citizens subsidize the cost of medications for a lot of other countries by paying higher prices for medicines, medical equipment and other things that are researched and produced here and abroad. Canada pays far less for its meds, because we pay more. There was just recently a piece on this cost shifting to the US on the Learning Channel.

Why should a doctor have to take what the state is paying them for practiceing their trade?? Maybe all of you infavor of socialized medicine should be forced to take what the state will pay you for whatever work it is that you do. Being a doctor is a marketable skill , just like any other training. Skils go to the highest bidder. If you cant afford something they you dont get it. Health care shouldnt be just given freely.Sickness and disease are natures way of controlling the population after all.

I think first we should understand when I comment on teachers/teaching/teachers unions and their proficiency or lack there of, I am speaking only for the situations as they exist in the USA. I know that here, there are faaaaar too many sub-standard teachers who are teaching our young and that there can be no real competancy testing due to the powerful teachers Unions. Some how it has become unreasonable to expect a teacher to have to be competent in the subjects they teach and tested on it. Frequently we have english majors teaching our children Physics, and Athletics majors teaching our kids literature. I have a high demand of the teachers who teach me and the teachers who teach my children. I demand they know what they are talking about and are not just parroting a script. If all you do is read the script, and dont understand the subject matter, you have no business teaching that subject, because you cannot explain it to the students. So I guess my problem isn't even with the teacher, it is with the system and the unions. Edit: No I do believe I hit the right "ism" The idea in socialism is that everyones basic needs get met, regardless their rank or station (except that the leaders are more worthy than the common peasent) [ 10-25-2002, 10:23 AM: Message edited by: MagiK ] |
