There is something seriously wrong with my toolset! This is what happens; I go into the toolset and i choose an area like "crypt" then i choose the size then i then press finish and it loads for several moments then I GET THIS GOD DAMN MESSAGE THAT SAYS I HAVE AN ACCESS VIOLATION! this is what it says "Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address FFFFFFFF." What the hell does that mean?! i sent an email to the toolset bugs email address and it sent it back saying that it was the wrong place to ask about it and i should go to the support page THAT DOESNT EVEN MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THE DAMN TOOLSET! Ok... im calm... [rant mode off]
Has anyone gotten this problem before or know of it? Is there a way to fix it, short of re-installing the whole game?

I do get this problem occasionally, when I'm importing HakPaks. I usually boot out of it, reboot, and get back into it and it works fine from there. I'm thinking it's probably a memory allocation issue more than anything else - how much RAM do you have? I think anything less than 256Mb is not going to be enough, especially if you're running WinXP.

Well i have 128MB of ram with Windows 98. And i have tried to do what you have suggested MANY times but it just doesnt seem to work. Would re-installing the game perhaps fix it?

Try it, you've got nothing to lose anyway. I've got a sneaking feeling you may be just a touch short on RAM - I was having lots of problems with 128Mb till I doubled it. It's a very resource-hungry application.

Its mainly a windows 98 problem. It happens to me occassionly as well, although I have 512 megs of ram. Windows 98 doesnt handle the toolsset very well because the toolset is a resource hog and win98 doesnt handle it well. I'm no expert, but thats what an expert told me.

I know a few people who upgraded to windows XP and havent encountered this problem again. Bioware made the game running xp from what I've read. I am considering an xp upgrade.

Try shutting everything running in the background down. I turn off my antivirus, firewall, ect. and I use my resource monitor, If it spikes up over 80 I save my module.

Call tech support if you havent, they wont make a patch unless they get feedback!

Goodluck.

I am currently running Win98 and I am having similar problems...but less frequently than you are. I am also going to upgrade to XP, because right there on the box, they recommend you have XP and that is all that is listed. I am no talking abou the required section, but the recommended section says XP is most desired. So, XP...here I come!

As to your errors...All I know is when it happens to me, I have to restart the game, and that usually fixes it, but the occurance is only 30% of the time. Do as posted above, and have all operations shut down that can be shut down. This includes going into your CTRL+ALT+DEL mode and shutting down the "behind the scenes" bad-boys that are not required to keep your system running. I mean such things as your PDA hot-sync, scanner, Winamp, and other items that have the ability to talk with the internet or be on "active" that are not required to be so at that time. You'll notice a big difference.

Oh...don't forget "active desktop", if you use that feature.

I have a program called End it All, it is a VERY useful program that closes all programs that you havent protected from it or are vital to the running of the computer and every time i start the computer i use this program so i KNOW that it isnt because i have too many programs running. I also heard that Windows XP is crap and also there is the fact that it costs MONEY and i am current in short supply of that. What is "active desktop" and what does it do?
