When creating a character it asks for a subrace, what does it do?

I don't think it does anything. All it is when you make an elf for example, you can type in "Drow" for example. You don't get any bonuses of that subrace, although it just makes it a little cooler.

Hopefully they will make a PCRPG where the subraces actually give you the bonuses...

From what they say its supposed to act as a "trigger" like if you have Drow typed in and someone makes a mod or a presistant world where an npc or guard type dislikes or likes drow they will do whatever is scripted.

Boy this feature sure bit me. I hit it and then typed Drow for giggles wondering if I would then be given a racial ability tree. Seeing that all it did was change my name I "thought" I hit cancel and then moved onto hit elf. Oh, somwhere around level 6 with my Sorc I noticed it read Drow Sorcerer, 6th Level!
So I am the palest Drow this side of Menzoberanza!
Is there anyway to change you hair/skin tint once the char is made?
Heck, if I am gona be tagged as a drow, I might as well look the part.

BTW, It says drow but I have all the racial abilities of an Elf. This leads me to belive that someone could create a Duergar (sp?) race class of evil dwarf if they wanted.

In reply to Tonious' question IWD 2 will have the option of sub-races, such as Drow, Gold dwarf, tiefling etc.... with all unique abilitys and bonuses!
