Before IWD I only played Pool of Radiance and it is totally different FRP.I've found some chests that are locked and traps on them. If I pick lock and try to open them it says that it is traped and I have to disarm them, but there 's no icon for them , only stealth, thieving and one more( forgot what). How to do that?? Also , why my human mage can only once cast a spell and she doesn't get new spell when reaches next level? In PoR for every level I get some spells and spells from lower levels can be cast once more. Can anyone explain this?
Thanks!!!

To open locked doors or chests, select your thief, click on the mask icon and then on the door or chest to unlock it.

For a mage to learn new spells, he must write magic from spell scrolls he finds through his adventuring. A cleric, for example, learns automatically new spells. Level up normally increases the number of spells you can cast.

Actually, it is the lockpick icon( the middle one). The mask icon is for stealth.

Ooopps, sorry. You´re right.

Oh, and to disarm a trap, you must detect it first (with the trap icon). The trapped area then turns red if you detect it, and then you must click on the lockpicking icon and then click on the red area. Voilá!

Thanks for explaining how to disarm traps, but about mage you probably didn't understand me.I said that in combat I can use a spell only once(from my book)and again when I rest.My mage is Lvl 7-I think.I have several spells for each level. On lower levels I have more spells than on higher. Is there any web site that explains all things about Frp

Thrasher,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not sure I understand your mage question, even with the clarification you added; but will give it a shot:

Your IWD manual gives you a chart of what level your mage has to be in order to get a certain number of spell slots for each spell level. (The chart is towards the end of your manual.) In addition, specialist wizards get an extra spell slot per level (for those levels that they qualify for).

The number of spells that your mage can write in his book is governed by his INTelligence. (Note that this is different than the number of spell slots. The former is the list of spells, written in the spell book, that are available to be memorized into the spell slots.) There is an abilities chart that shows the relationship between INT and the maximum number of spells per level that can be written into the spell book. This chart is also towards the end of your IWD manual.

I have visited several sites that give lots of info on how the mage and spells work in IWD, but have forgotten the specific addresses. Go to http://www.google.com and select the advanced search page. Search on the phrase "Icewind Dale", with "spells," "wizard" and/or "mage" in the required words field (no quotes).

I hope this answered your question.
