Has anybody killed the mysterious serpent messenger right at the beginning of the game? I reset the game with one of my super-characters (LVL 6 Paladin, Warlock, Barb, Fighter, Ranger) and managed to take about 1/2 of his hit points before he dissapears. I can't do enough damage to kill him before he disappears though.

Maybe a higher-level character with the reveal invisible spell or somebody who is a Zenmaster could get him. Anybody try this? Does Gareth still die if you take out the Snake-boy first? Or does the game just explode into virtual giblets?

Hi Mort!
I managed to kill him after lots of tries with a high level group of characters. It doesn't seem to have any adverse affect on the game and I do believe Gareth still dies (I can't remember the details, it has been awhile since I did it).

Good job! Note how this accidentally ties into the "ethics of role playing" thread that was bumped up just about exactly the same time as I posted this question. Amazing timing!

BTW, do you remember about how many HP the guy had?

I believe he is Grue Morde who you have to kill for an Assasin's Quest halfway through the game. In the Strategy Guide of Misinformation his vitals are:

Level=18
HitPoints=198
Exp=28622

Pretty wimpy and as hard to kill as the Leprechan.

Yes, Traveller = Grue Morde. Listen to his speech near Brimloch Roon.

Grue Morde looked like a highland thief type - not this serpent guy - that always bothered me since it seemed logical to presume the serpent guy was the one that killed Gareth.

(shrug)

Wyvern, that's Brahmar the Bandito you're thinking of (3rd Town Hall Guild Quest in Ishad N'ha), not Grue Morde...Grue Morde does look like the Serpent Guy. Again, poor design...they put both quest guys within 100 yards of each other (often you end up fighting both and not realizing it!)

Not your fault, Wyvern...like I said, why did they put two major quest guys within yards of each other? It's like attack alley behind the Spire! VERY easy to get confused!

Wyv,

Are you sure you didn't have any input in the magnificient Tome of Misinformation?

Maybe they just needed more coffee too
