As I rencently posted I didn't want to do too many quests before rescuing Immy. When I finally got to BG2 (playing BGT) and had to give her up I remembered Six's advice. I collected every sellable item at Chateau Irenicus and had a big sale right after surfacing. Then I did the Circus tent quest (to get my lover-to-be Aerie) which was quite rewarding (sold the Ring of Human Influence as my Blade already has 19Char ).
When I first encountered Gaelan I already had about 8000gp. As I did not want to use cheesy steal/sell back tactics I only stole the most necessary equipment (Glasses of ID, gem bag, Qstaff +1 for Aerie) from Gaelan's merchant friend and went off to the government district to pick up Jan (getting Keldorn later when I come back from "you know where"). There I came across little Delon and not to disappoint Minsc I agreed to do his task. This rather easy (avoided Thax) quest was VERY rewarding as I was lucky enough to find a Larael's Tear necklace on a Skeleton Warrior and had lots of surplus TwoHanders+1 to sell (not mentioning the expensive equipment you get at the end of the quest). I even turned down additional gold from the mayor (I'm sooo nice ) and that left me with 23500gp just enough to pay the fee and buy my PC the Girdle of Hill giant strenghth. So now I'll be off (once I did the tasks for Mr. "Greenclad is protected by nasty Assassins who WILL kill you no matter what you do") with a low level party (except for my PC and Minsc who have plenty of XP from the BG1+TotSC part). So especially Chapter 5 should be interesting.

Good job, Faceman!

Actually, I've found it is not that hard to rush off right away to get Imoen. You could get away with the Chapter 1 stuff and the Slaver quest and you will pretty much be all set to get her back. I don't even get much in special equipment before going. Chapters 4 and 5 are loaded with good stuff anyway, and are not that hard if you use good tactics (and you can always come back to areas in Chapter 5 that are too hard). I usually put together my full party if possible before going, but I have gone with 2 NPCs in the party before (more difficult, but you level VERY fast that way).
