Win 2000 is aimed more at business and corporate users than your average home PC user. Most new software developed today, and in the past year have been written for XP.

As a side note on the whole Linux/Unix/Mac thing, Sir Kenyth was right on the money. No matter what OS you are using, somebody, somewhere will find a way to crack it. Unfortunately 99% of all hackers and losers in the world have decided to target Microsoft because their pi$$ed off that Bill Gates is a better business man.

If you keep your AV software up to date with the latest definitions, use Windows Update regularly and run a good firewall, you'll be fine. [img]smile.gif[/img]

EDIT: When was the last time someone got upset with Ford/Chev/Honda etc... because they had to take their car in for an oil change and a tune up?

Okay here's something I just realised about SP2. It's been a while since I was told that updates are available.
Checking the eula.txt in the system32 folder I find that the SP2 is 180 evaluation. This is because it is a beta and I was aware of this when I instaled it. What I was not aware of however is that it has completely changed my windows serial and therefore, I cannot download any updates now. I've contacted Microsoft and it seems that unless they have a pretty good explanation, along with a solution for me to change the serial, a format will be on it's way very soon!

Bokken, isn't M$ upadating Windows Update as well? To version 6 (or was it 5)? I believe they are doing this to remove all unlawful copies of XP. You will be able to use it but not to uprade it.

I can understand that part of it. Not much use if it's going to remove the lawful copies also though...heh
