I'm not gonna do a system restore unless I'm desperate. I currently haven't had the AIM message pop up for 20 minutes, but for about a minute, it popped up once every 10-15 seconds.

Ok, give us some data. How long did this go on for?

How many times did it re-appear before you finally got it to go away?

Since I'm a gambler as well as a programer in C, C++, Java, and a few others, along with being the office IT, and IM, though that means nothing when dealing with the caliber of rock scientiest' here. I'm placing a blind bet you first noticed it 32-35 hours before you finally got rid of it.

Now for the scary part. What information do you have that is sacred to you, or your work that was on this machine?
I would be double checking my credit card staement, banking info, and anything else importatnt.

FYI: In my world this situation is an immediate flag to the user by remote, and to us in the IM department, to take the system down. That means get it off the net now. Strip it and rebuild it. Why 3 times on a hard format. Because we have programs that can recreate data at the 2nd level. Which means that file is really not erased until the 3rd or more replacing of empty data has over written it.

About 5 or 6 times.

No information really. I changed my AOL password and my AIM password. I was planning on ordering Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast that day online. I did order it, but only a few hours after I got rid of the trojan just to be safe.
