I was just wondering, how many of you have played Liero?
And is it possible to play it on Windows XP?
I have tried on many computers with XP and it doesnt work on any of them.
Can someone help me, i really want to play this game again.

After considerable effort, I came to the conclusion that this thing will not play natively on XP. Mind you, IIRC the errors I was getting are the same as I was getting on FE2, and I know that that can be played on XP if you get the memory manager configured right, so it may be worth looking into that.

I do not know the game but if it is a very old game then this site might help.

http://www.mameworld.net/

It helps you play old games on your modern PC

Liero is apparently worms in realtime. However, despite being written in 1999, it has no win95 support and winXP fails miserably. As near as I can tell, the entire Liero community collapsed a couple of months ago when the lieronet forums went down for too long. They now have -1 members, no boards, and no topics.

I did see something about winXP on the site, but nothing about how to get it working. If the forum was still up, I could ask, but as it is, theres nothing of much use. usenet has some stuff about it, but if anyone has posted anythign helpful its in russian or finnish. Neither of which I can make heads nor tails of.

No hope of a new version either - the author apparently lost the source code, so to make a winXP compatable version he would have to start again from scratch. I havent tracked down his homepage, but I would not expect to see anything helpful in the near future. It may be worth trying a dos emulator, but all the ones I know of are still working on completeing the 80387/80387 featureset and can barely handle protected mode.

If you find something from usenet you think is worth knowing, I can translate it from finnish to english.

Liero (=slimy worm or so) was excellent fun..

All that effort looking, and its a simple solution. Use the /n switch when running it, to disable the sound. Then it will work on XP.

Or at least it will if you use the version for download here:

Other versions should work but I dont know for sure.
