the worst thing about the case is that if it's not thrown out the window immediately the fast food companies are probably going to settle out of court to try and keep court costs down

In all the other cases, where people KNEW smoking is addictive, it's of course their own responsibility.

I can see now, through our verbal parry-and-riposte, that my automobile analogy is not quite right. How about the alcohol distilleries then? They know that many people find alcohol a very addictive substance and difficult to quit, but continue making the product anyway. Should people begin suing Anheiser Busch or Jack Daniels because of their alcohol-related illnesses? My point is that suing a company because of your own personal choices is not right. It is equally wrong for companies to hide knowledge that thier product might be harmful to the health of their consumers.

You think this lawsuit is bad ??
Oh, there`s worse alright... The past couple of months, some people suid telstra (Australias telecommunications giant) because of their high prices. Sofar, that makes sense- we have laws in place to stop unnecesarily high prices being put into place. Telstra`s defense: "We are a goverment body, and so we do not have to adhere to the governments regulations". Telstra won. AND the people suing them had to pay the court fees. So, in the end, telstra had broken the law with their prices; someone realised it, took it to court; but it didn`t cost telstra a cent. And you thought someone suing a fastfood company was bad ??
