Do you ever wonder that, perhaps, somewhere - there's a sort of meta-character, a figure cloaked in mystery, that appears to aid those in fantasy trilogies, a thing with the power of a God, skipping through the pages of imagination like some benevolent godfather? Gandalf, Elminster, Fizban, Merlin... and on, and on, and on? That it's all the same character, brought back time and time again, called forth to fight evil, to aid the hero, once and forever?
Or do you think I need more therapy? Tancred "Mithrandir among the Elves, Tharkun to the Dwarves; Olorin I was in my youth in the West that is forgotten, in the South Incanus, In the North Gandalf; to the East I go not." - Faramir, quoting Gandalf, 'The Lord of the Rings' |

Gandalf would win because he would compose a party of halflings, elves, dwarves and rangers to do his dirty work for him while he relaxed with some pipe weed.
