Operation Telic is the British name for the war against Iraq. It was created by a computer. The US name, Operation Iraqi Freedom, was thought up by a commitee.

Personally I think Operation Iraqi Liberation would have been more apt!

I hope you really don't believe this is all about Oil, Donut.

I don't think it's strictly about oil, but I do believe there is a hint of trade war about this. (Also on the european anti-war stance).

Afterall Iraq did recently change to trade oil in Euro instead of Dollar.

Gotta defend your currency.

(Hint: This is just as much an anti EU post as an anti USA. I have very little faith in humanity).

Telic originates from the Greek 'Telos' final - but in the modern sense, it conveys the act of moving towards an end goal.

I would agree with you that it is perhaps an inappropriate name, but not because it doesn't sound nice, but rather because the word is often interchanged with the phrase 'final solution' - a phrase with obvious negative connotations.

[/QUOTE]I was making a joke about the US name rather than Telic. Substituting the worl Liberation for Freedom. The acronym would then be OIL.

Still musing

Do you think that George Bush thought up "The War Against Terrorosm on his own?

I wanted to initially highlight my opinion.

BTW - to get this to make sense I have deliberatley split an infinitive, something I try to never do!
