Today it was announced in sombre mein that the mighty Australian cricket captain Steve (Tugger) Waugh has been dropped from the one day side. He remains captain of the test side, and has vowed to fight his way back into the "one-dayers" before the next World Cup.

Personally I think they dropped the wrong Waugh - Afghanistan should have been the one to go.

**grynzz n wonderzz wot his American pals will make of that last statement - perhaps we should offer a prize for any non-Aussies or non-Donuts that now what that was about**

I can't believe they told him just before they Alan Border medal night! They do have a sense of timing don't they? I think both of them should have been dropped, but definitely Junior (Afgan ) should have gone if one of them was going. I can't see him getting back into the side, that's what everyone's been saying about Junior - if they dropped him now, it would be for good. Unless the captaincy is an issue, but I doubt it will be.

Hi Aelia,

Long time since we had a sports thread going . Looks like no-one rose to the Afghanistan challenge . I don't think the captaincy was much of an issue, except I guess for a couple of dealings with the press. On field his captaincy still looked to still be pretty good. I think there must have been a few behind the scenes dealings that we are not aware of regarding the "rotation policy".

So, who's the next captain - Punter, Gillie or the "Sheik".

Personal note - have now got plane tickets, arraongements underway for the footy, and put the RSVP in yesterday.

Yeah I meant now that he's out of the side, I doubt he'd get back in unless for captaincy, but I'm sure that won't be an issue. Gilly, I'm sure will ge the call up, thought it would be nice to see Warnie get a run .

Guess I better start saving for a new dress then?

Oh WHAT!? Oh that's pathetic. Man... I'm a huge fan of both Waughs. And Bevan. And Hayden.

Damn. What an absolute bummer.

Hey, for our American friends it's pronounced Tuggah. Don't pronounce the 'R' for the pun (a typical Aussie nickname finding method) to become glaringly obvious.

I've said it before:

Waugh!
What is he good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Say it again!

Hi Donut - aren't your guys in the "shakies" somewhere, gettin walloped by the Kiwi's at the moment . You can have it on good authority that Mr Steve Waugh is extremely good at something - namely making victory speeches and waving cups / urns etc in the air .

Pardon my acronymity, but I suggest you're supporting a "lost cause" there Donut. I thought you to be of more aristocratic mein - depressing to see this descent to the "lower classes". One has hopes that your wit will soon regain its' ascerbic splendour .
