I once pulled a machine out of a closet and booted it up. It had been sitting for over 2 years, and I didn't find any problems with anything. Storing it for a year shouldn't do any damage. I just hope what's already done isn't fatal...

You can store it as long as you like without difficulty. At least, unless you decide to store it near a bunch of strong magnets....
