So, I've just finished reading 'Ash' by Mary Gentle. Has anyone else read this? What did you think?

It's just the most fantastic book I have read in the last few years! The main character, Ash, is a female mercenary captain in medieval Burgundy, with a serious Joan of Arc complex (hears the voice of god in her head, leads her army to glorious victories etc). The book has this wonderful dark, gritty, dirty feel to it, and it feels really authentic.

The story takes in huge battles, sieges, politics, cross-dressing doctors, and then starts to get into some weird alien shit as well. It just flipped me out!

Can anyone recommend any other Mary Gentle?

So, I guess no-one else has read it right?

Well, do yourselves a favour people - get yourselves down to the bookshop (for old fashioned types) or Amazon (for the younger crowd) and get yourselves a copy!

Why does Mary Gentle sound so familiar to me? Oh yes, GRUNTS, the single most inane and stuipd fantasy/sci fi book i've ever read. Still disgustingly funny nonetheless.

Never read Grunts, but as a fan of disgustingly funny books I'll be sure to look out for it.

Thank you Sir.
