I'm looking into purchasing an Alienware system, however, I've heard some rather awful things about them. What has been your experience with Alienware, specifically their laptops?

Never heard anything bad about Alienware... I thought it was pretty much the best you can get.

Alienware are cool and are regarded as some of the best gaming rig's around.

A lot of people say you can get the same parts cheaper but its the extra's that you get with Alienware that are cool.

Check out their webste and config the type of PC you want.

I don't think Alienware are anything special to be honest. I think I can make a much better job (and have) of building PC's myself. That way they are more customised - Alienware really aren't that much different from others, they just use performance hardware.

In regards to a laptop, Alienware are slightly better, as you can't really build your own. There are a number of good companies out there however, (depending on your price range of course). A quick google turned up This.
Just something you should take a look at.

I myself if buying a performance laptop, would look into Voodoo, as they make some real screamers of laptops, and they look really nice too.

ALienware are over priced imho, at least in the uk, and there are some rivals in gaming laptops, i would mention some but they are UK sites, so its a bit pointless.

Good quality second tier vendor... but expensive for a second tier vendor. Their marketing niche is selling high end gaming systems and they extract what I consider an excessive margin for the privelege of owning an 'alienware' system. (jmo)

AFAIK they use top quality components in their rigs, the type you'd buy if you were doing it yourself.

Buying an Alienware is like buying a BMW. You can get the same power and performance for a lot cheaper, but you don't get the prestige that comes along with it!
