I used to joke that there was somebody for me, but she got hit by a bus.
I sometimes wonder if there is somebody meant for me. All self deprecation aside, I hope that there still is. It's becoming more difficult to have hope as I gaze into the mirror and gaze upon the repulsive visage that greets me on a daily basis. Sorry, I can't help it. Have any of you met the "one"?

I thought I did once, but I was wrong. I guess I was probably too young to judge at that point. I understand your plight, although I most likely have more time ahead of me (I'm 22). You just have to go back out and keep looking. You never know when you'll stumble across that person.

I thought I had but it just turned out to be temporary insanity. But I'm sure my special someone is out there, I just have to stalk her long enough that she'll take me.

Sazerac is right--love yourself first.
Also, take a more Zen-like approach. Don't actively seek "the one"; just live your life and the right one will appear at the right point in time. At least, that is how it worked for me. edit: You must be willing to be honest with yourself in order for this approach to work; otherwise you cannot find the right person. Not that it could have slipped anyone's attention, but Belle is the one for me. No doubt about it. April will make 3 years for us. I'm curious as to views on fate and karma in a way. I'd like to think that I wasn't meant to be alone. It does encourage me as I read people's stories about how they found their "true love" or the "one". It sows a seed of hope in my cynical world. Edited to note that I've never known you to look into a thread more than once, so I'm wondering why I'm replying again. I can also wonder why I smoke while I'm at it. Hiram, I've often read your posts, and chatted with you on several occasions. You have a real personality, and that is so unbelievably hard to find these days. You're a very kind person, you always put other people ahead of yourself. I know this from the times you've talked about your family, and in particular your sister. Such compassion is a rare thing, it really is. On top of the friendliness, intelligence, kindness and selflessness is a thick layer of hilarity. You don't want to know how often I've been in absolute stitches from the things you've written. Mix up all these positive attributes and you've got the ingredients for a wonderful person.
There are three things you need to do. Firstly, realize you are this person. Secondly, feel sorry for the shallow people who don't appreciate you. Thirdly, relax and have confidence in yourself. If you take pride in the aforementioned characteristics you have, your whole perception of yourself and other people will change. You will be so much more at ease with who you are and far more ready for 'the one' when she does enter your life. Because it's a question of when, not if. You will meet her, I'm positive of this. Good luck my friend EDIT: Dr. Phil undertone really not intended here. [ 11-20-2002, 01:29 AM: Message edited by: Arledrian ] |

Time to poke my nose into such an interesting topic.
Sometimes you met the right one when you aren't even looking. So, my advice is to go all out to meet and enjoy the female companions. When my friend introduced me to my wife; way back 10 years ago, I didn't even know she is the "right" one per se. To be honest, I didn't think much about her in the beginning but as the time goes on... you know the outcome.
