But I agree, if the brain isn't stimulated, you atrophy. Entertainment of any sort (except TV for some reason) stimulates brain waves and creates those synapses that make us smarter. So, without that, we would not progress, and without progress, what would be our reason for being?

Just some thoughts.
According to Harlan Ellison, TV doesn't so much "suck" as it is "sucked." That is, it's used as a pacifier to dull and numb the senses, much as an alcoholic sucks at a bottle.

I would posit that TV's main bane is more in how it's used rather than a fundamental problem with the media itself.

Thanks, Charean!

Ok, this is what i think. We cant live without entertainment if the enviroment offers entertainment. Though in an enviroment WITHOUT entertainment we can live without it because we dont know if it exsists. So in a world like ours, we have many many things to entertain us, For example: If I was banned from watching television, I would find something else to do because I know that there is something else out there to do. If I live on some other plannet however, and I know there is now entertainment available and I have to stay on that plannet, Ill kill myself. In an enviroment with little or no entertainment, maybe like a....Hunter or something in the old days, I wouldn't know that there is entertainment, and live without it.

But even in medieval or primitive societies, hunters and gatherers entertained themselves with tales of bravery and heroism...thus the demand for bards and skalds. Not to mention that even the ancient cave-dwellers produced works of art, as shown in the caves of Altamira, Spain.

You are limiting that which is "entertainment" by that which YOU know as "entertainment."
