The Democrates turned this thing into a 3 hour televised Democratic Rally. It was shameful to use this man's memorial service for the political value of the television coverage.

They actually booed the state's Republican governor and the US Senate Minority leader , who were there in an official capacity, to pay their respects to a fellow elected official. Booed them at a memorial service.

Republicans were outraged and some Democrates admitted this was too much.

It doesn't matter what state you're from, it doesn't matter if you're a Democrat or a Republican, and it doesn't matter whether or not you like the officials in question, but what does matter is that this was a service to honor the life of Senator Wellstone. He was a politician but was this a tribute to his memory? No.

This was a memorial service, and the things that were done were beyond distasteful.

It's even more ridiculous because it was completely unnecessary for political reasons. The Democrates want to hold on to that seat, right? Well, they've picked Former Vice-President Walter Mondale to replace Wellstone in the race. Mondale enjoys a 98% name recognition value in MN, and a nearly 70% career approval rating. Three days ago when he was mentioned as a replacement the polls showed him leading the Republican candidate by nearly 10 points. That was before he entered the race.

The family also told Vice-President Dick Cheney that they did not want him to attend. He had offered to come as a fellow politician and representative of the White House. Instead of being flattered by his offer, the family told him that "he probably wouldn't feel comfortable" at the service, since it was going to be a celebration of liberal values.

Boy, were they ever right.

I haven't seen any "official" coverage of the funeral, but I heard similar statements on the news. Several people were appalled that the "funeral part" of the service was quickly forgotten in favor of a completely over-the-top political circus.

I didn't know the Senator or his politics, but he was obviously very popular and successful for his party and constituents. He and his wife and daughter certainly deserved to have thier lives honored and remembered in a more fitting fashion.

And to BOO someone who has come to pay tribute to the deceased because he belongs to the "other party" completely redefines "poor taste and judgement".

Was a total disgrace and now there are reports of people trying to say that Wellstone was assassinated by the Bush Admiistration.

They sort of over look the fact that Fritz gives the Dems a better chance at winning that seat than Wellstone may have had.

I find it sad that fewer and fewer people these days seem to have any repsect for anything. I feel old sometimes when I say "when I was younger..." but it really does seem like manners, politenes and basic courtesy have been disappearing over the last several years.

It reminded me more of a fascist rally than a memorial service. Sad.

In Governer Jesse Ventures words:

"It was a disgrace, the democrates should hang their heads in shame."
