Aaaahhh....memories.
I started playing 1st Edition AD&D in 1985 in college. One of my best friends from high school had played for a few years and wanted to start a new group. My roommate and I were interested, but had never played, so we started a campaign with 4 completely new (and totally clueless) players. I played a ranger (big LOTR fan), my roommate played a druid (based on a character in the Shannara series), and a 3rd friend played a cleric. The DM's roommater played a mage.

That was the BEST campaign I ever played in. We had no idea what we were doing, so we did some REALLY off-the-wall stuff (check out Saz's thread on Funniest Gaming Moments for some highlights). The DM was also very adaptable and would let us do crazy stuff. Our chances of success were based on two things....

1) if we could logically explain how it MIGHT work, there was a chance it would.
2) if the results of our actions would provide the DM with humor...it would DEFINITELY work (see the "Coffin-polishing incident" in the thread mentioned above).

We eventually had some of the "veterans" of our gaming group join the campaign to provide some guidance. Even the DM agrees that, to this day, this was the best campaign he EVER played in or DM'd.

I'll add another post to Saz's thread to BUMP it back to the front page.
