Definitely not guilty here. Not only do I follow every rule of grammar of which I am aware , I insist upon correct punctuation for all my posts. However, this is a standard I set only for myself and not others--other people may write as they wish.

Apostrophising mistakes irritate me to no end. Like Kaltia I read for instance you're as you are, which makes no sense when it's meant as your. They're there for a reason. And Kakero I think the whole-hole comparison is sound - apostrophes convey meaning no more and no less than letters. Like Bungleau said, its means something very different than it's, but all the letters are the same. Letters are all just symbols anyway; I don't know why apostrophes are seen as different and optional. Is punctuation optional too?

I try hard not to make mistakes - but sometimes they happen when I type too fast

Grammatical mistakes annoy me more than they probably should. I just find it such a shame when someone doesn't take the time to write properly. Nine out of ten people who are guilty of grammatical crimes know they are - so why don't they take the extra few seconds to check what they've written? It makes whatever they have to say hold so much more water.
