I have 3D Studio Max 5.0 and have made my own 3D model for neverwinter nights and I was going to try to export the model using the "NWN mdl Import/Export Maxscript" script, but when I export the model, it can only be exported as a "node"- that may be normal-, but then, it doesn't seem to export anything. If anyone could help out or give some steps, please do! Thanks

i use gmax so i can only give you some general steps and i'm not sure if they'll help (but better than nothing)

- select the model base and try to export, then you should be able to export as mdl (i suppose you have one otherwise you might want to do a tutorial, try the LOK video tutorials by DanMar)

- if you export i think the code is put in the listener (F11 in gmax), if you open it you can copy the code to your text editor (this one i'm not totally sure about as it might work different

1. I tried just opening an un altered model and then exporting it, but it would only let me export it as a node- I'll have to look at the tutorials.

2. I hit F11 and got the export code- you say to put it into a text editor, but then what? -Sorry, I just don't know what to do here LOL

I'll post the code in the next post...

Save the file in your text editor, then rename it to .mdl

Just take an existing mdl and open it up in a text editor, you will see the same kind of code as yours.

I saved the file and renamed it, but each time I try to view the models in the NWN Model Viewer, its just a black screen. Is this becuase I don't have a texture assigned to the model?

try danmar's video tutorial about creating a placeable. even if you only want to alter the model everything is in there. my computer is broken and i'm in the library with limited time so i can't give you all the steps. You can find the tutorial on nwvault
